Each year, November is celebrated as National Adoption Awareness Month to recognize individuals and families who have been touched by adoption. We recognize adoptive families, foster families, children who are adopted, children waiting to be adopted and the women and men who have made the loving decision to place their children for adoption. Nebraska Children’s Home Society (NCHS) asks the community to help in our endeavor to raise adoption awareness.
Here are a few ideas on how individuals can help raise awareness: Ask your local library to feature a display of adoption books and resources Offer to read an adoption book to your child’s class at school Make cards for extended family members celebrating their role in your family Dedicate a song on the radio to those touched by adoption Invite an adoptive family or adopted person to share their story at your church, school or business Subscribe to an adoption magazine for your doctor or hair salon’s waiting area Have a Party with a Purpose, and donate money raised to NCHS to support our mission of providing safe loving care to children of ages. Send a thank you note to a social worker or adoption agency Organize a Jeans Day at your place of work, and donate money raised to NCHS Become an NCHS Foster Parent Like NCHS on Facebook Checkout the adoption resources listed on our website, www.nchs.org
